Founder’s Message
My name is Breeann Leonard. I am a licensed attorney, wife, and mom, just to name a few of my life accomplishments. I wear multiple hats often at the same time. However, one hat that I once wore was that of a first generation law student. I embarked on the law school journey unknowingly unprepared. I had a great community of support from family and friends, a high undergraduate gpa, ambition, and the desire to fulfill a childhood goal of becoming an attorney. Even with all of those things in my favor, I found myself having to catch up as soon as I began.
Law school was a learning environment unlike any of my previous learning environments. Regardless of the accomplishments of my prior educational pursuits, within my first week of school, the overwhelming realization of the magnitude of my decision to pursue law became evident in a way I did not foresee. I did not have access to anyone to provide guidance or authentic insight on what to expect of the process and it was a challenge. Although I did eventually catch up, it was later in the process than necessary. I recognized that the process would have been easier to navigate if I had the proper tools from the start and the knowledge how to effectively apply them. A law school education is a discipline that is beyond mere intelligence. It’s a rigorous yet satisfying experience that will change the way you think and stay with you for a lifetime.
Cut The Curve was envisioned from my personal experiences of maneuvering through the legal education system as a minority and a first generation law student. Cut The Curve is a Legal Education Preparedness Program with the intent to provide holistic guidance, support and insight for students regardless of where they may be at in their law school journey or stage of life. The goal of this program is to cut the learning curve while simultaneously cutting the infamous law school grading curve. This program will provide students access to information from people who were once students and those who are also attorneys. We will not just reinforce foundational concepts taught in law school but we will teach you how to effectively apply the tools.
